What is Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)?
FCS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences Extension. FCS programming focus on building assets of individuals and families to address problems faced across the lifespan. Family and Consumer Sciences Extension emphasizes well-being with a focus on human development, parenting, resource management, nutrition, health and leadership development.
At the community level, FCS Extension prepares individuals for community and economic development and activity. Professionals in Family and Consumer Sciences Extension provide the tools to help individuals and families to develop resources for strengthening families and building community for an ever changing society.

Caldwell County currently has nine traditional homemaker clubs and two specialty clubs. Traditional clubs meet monthly to discuss an educational topic, learn something new, and fellowship. All Booked Book Talk is a specialty club that meets monthly to discuss all things books. Sit N Sew is a specialty club that meets monthly to work on personal sewing projects. Big Blue Book Club is back in its original format via Zoom! Registration is now open on the Big Blue Book Club website. Just visit the site and click on the current book cover, "Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts" by Crystal Wilkinson, to find the registration link. Chef Tanya Whitehouse, FCS Extension Specialist and Chef in Residence at The Food Connection is the facilitator for this session.
Crystal Wilkinson, native Kentuckian and former Kentucky poet laureate, weaves together lyrical stories from her ancestors with recipes that have graced her family tables for generations. She thoughtfully shows how food is woven into the fabric of families, whether through its preparation or by enjoying it at a common table.
